Players who want to hit the field and be their best while playing soccer need to understand that they can't just show up on game day. Instead, they'll have to put in plenty of practice and work off the field, especially if they want to outplay everyone else during the game. With the help of soccer drills, players can expand upon their skills, have better footwork, be better teammates, and truly reach their potential. Here are some of those drills that any player can work on, no matter their skill level or ability.
Dribbling In And Out Of Cones
One great way for players to work on their speed and balance is to start by dribbling in and out of cones. To begin, set the cones up about 2 feet away from one another. Then, the player will begin by dribbling one way, then changing direction to go the other way on the inside of the cone. As the player gets better at this drill, they can then stop looking down at the ball and instead keep their eyes up and pointed directly ahead. Finally, players can also move the cones closer together to get even better at this drill.
Corner Kick Practice
The corner kick is one of the most influential plays in all of soccer. Players like David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo are called upon every time that a corner kick takes place, as it's their responsibility to put the ball as close to the goal as possible. Therefore, players who want to be their best should be sure to work on corner kicks. When practicing corner kicks, the ball should be kicked towards the back end of the goal so that an incoming player can attempt to knock it in. Once a player gets better with their corner kicking abilities, they can then try to start curving the ball by putting backspin on it. In doing so, players will improve their abilities and they may even be able to score a few goals from this corner kick position.
Goal Keeper Practice
In order for goalies to be their best, they should work on explosive movements that will allow for them to get from one part of the goal to the other. Being able to cover a wide spread of the net will allow for them to be better at defending the goal when the other team shoots at it.
One of the most impressive moves that soccer players can usually do involves being able to loft the ball upwards and continuously dribble it with their head, feet, and knees, without letting it touch the ground. To do this, players can practice by standing in one position and then kicking the ball about 10-feet in the air. Once the ball starts to come down, the objective is for the player to make sure that the ball doesn't touch the ground. And by limiting the movement that the player makes, they'll get better at being able to dribble a ball when it's in the air using just their limbs.
